Student Athlete of the Month: Chrishon Springs

By Blake McCann

The pressure of Friday night lights strikes fear into the eyes of many, but not in East Forsyth linebacker Chrishon Springs. His sensational senior campaign contributed to the Eagles’ success. Chrishon was a key contributor to the Eagles’ deep playoff run, which is why he is your Athlete of the Month.

The East Forsyth defense was stout for the entire season, having one of the fewest points allowed totals in the state, and Chrishon was a huge part of that. When asked about the mentality of the football team, he said, “We always had high expectations for ourselves and each other. You never wanted to let yourself or one of your brothers down.”

The desires of the football team boiled down to one thing and one thing only. “We wanted to win a state championship. Even though we fell short, we had a tremendous season and I am going to miss every second of it.” This had been the goal for East Forsyth football during recent years, and even though they were unsuccessful, their hard fought road to the state semi-finals was the best of such runs since the Eagles won states in 1992.

If there has ever been a question about Chrishon’s production, his stats eliminated that. According to maxpreps.com, he finished his career with 448 total tackles, 12 sacks, 3 interceptions, 5 fumbles forced, 5 fumbles recovered, and 2 touchdowns. These stats are why he was considered a premier linebacker in the state of North Carolina.

Fellow East Forsyth football players had a great admiration for their linebacker. “He is the best linebacker I have ever played with,” said Junior East Forsyth safety, Madison Cone. Chrishon is not only athletic, but also a leader and communicator on and off the field.

Chrishon reflected on his future endeavors in football by saying he “hopes to play at Virginia Tech, because it has always been [his] favorite school.” Virginia Tech is notorious for their development of exceptional linebackers, and East Forsyth’s very own might be next up.

Although East Forsyth came just short of achieving their ultimate goal, their hard work and team comradery helped encapsulate a brotherhood that will last them a lifetime. With that being said, Chrishon Springs does not quite seem ready to hang up his helmet, and we wish him and the entire team the best of luck in their future football ventures and beyond.
