Mentor Tennis – Jr. Summer Camp Tennis – Ages 6-14

Learn and/or improve your tennis skills!  Each day of camp will work on the different aspects of tennis–from basic strokes to game play, depending on the class’s goals.  As opposed to meeting once-a-week, this camp offers consecutive days of learning for better retention.  The camp offers several different weeks throughout the summer and will be held at Fourth of July Park from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  For registration and detailed camp info, please send an email to: mentorent@gmail.com.

Summer Basketball Camp – K-8th Graders

This camp provides boys and girls a chance to take their game to the next level by giving them an opportunity to improve their fundamentals.  Each age group and all skill levels will have favorable gym time, station work, and team play.  Younger campers (K-2nd grade) will be shooting on lower, age appropriate goals.  Campers will learn passing, ball handling, rebounding, court spacing, offensive, and defensive skills.  They will have FUN and gain self-confidence, allowing them to create their own winning formulas, on and off the court.  Session dates are:  Session 1: Monday- Friday, 6/20-6/24 and Session 2: Monday-Friday, 7/25-7/29.

Kernersville Parks and Recreation publishes the LEISURE GUIDE, three times a year, which details all programs and classes in adult and youth athletics, arts and crafts, exercise, fitness, dance, drama, and personal development.  It also includes events and lists the amenities of many of the beautiful parks in Kernersville.  Pick up a LEISURE GUIDE at our community center (125 E. Bodenhamer St.), public libraries, Town Hall, local area businesses, or Town events.

On Saturday, May 28, the Town of Kernersville and the Kernersville YMCA will kick-off the Memorial Day weekend by celebrating the beginning of the season with Community Day at the Pool!  The celebration will take place from 12 – 2 p.m. and is FREE to everyone in the community.  We will have a blast enjoying music, games, free pizza, and prizes to celebrate the beginning of summer!  Make plans now to be a part of the family fun and help us kick off summer!

The opening of pools and more exposure to water in oceans, lakes, rivers, and streams increases the risk of danger for many children.  Drowning is the second leading cause of death in children aged one to fourteen.  Children are especially susceptible to water related injury and death, as many have not learned basic swim skills or how to be safe around the water. The Kernersville YMCA wants to keep kids safe in the water this summer and offers many swim lessons available for all ages. Take advantage of this opportunity to prepare your children to have a safe, fun summer!
