Ben Babcock’s one-handed grabs and lightning speed have dazzled Bishop McGuinness fans for over two years. His 6’0” frame, coupled with an impressive vertical, keeps fans’ eyes glued to the field. Opposing defenses and fans alike know Ben is always liable to bust out a huge gain on any play. Aside from giving opposing cornerbacks nightmares as a star wide receiver, Ben also contributes to the team as a defensive back and kick returner. His impressive plays and staggering statistics have helped him to become the face of Bishop McGuinness Football.

From a young age, one thing was clear: Ben Babcock was going to be an athlete. Growing up, Ben took part in a laundry list of sports including basketball, baseball, soccer, track, flag football, volleyball, tennis, and swimming. At Bishop, he dominates the football field, baseball field, and basketball court. Although a standout baseball and basketball player, Ben says that football is his favorite sport due to the boisterous crowds it draws. It is this Friday night football environment that Ben states is his favorite part about the sport.

Ben’s senior year has been his most impressive thus far. In fact, he gained national attention when he was 8^th in the nation in receiving yards after the first two games of this season. Ben, always humble, concedes that his favorite Bishop memory was a team one. Bishop McGuinness defeating Community School of Davidson to start this season was the moment that stood out the most in his football career. It is this team mentality that motivates Ben to perform at his highest ability. “I love being able to play in front of the school every Friday with my closest friends,” said Ben.

There is one relationship on the field that is different, however. The friendship between Ben and senior quarterback Peter Ingle dates back years. “Peter and I have been friends since first grade and he has been my quarterback since recess football,” said Ben. The harmony between the duo is more than obvious on the field. Ben said, “we have great chemistry, and know we can make plays for each other.”
