A Long Standing Tradition in Kernersville

By Heather Wood

There is something characteristically American about the idea of Main Street. Whether a place for the locals to hang out, or the go-to destination of visitors in town, Main Street is oftentimes the heart and soul of a small town or city. Anyone who has driven through Kernersville at Christmastime has seen the magical blinkie lights that fill the streets of our Downtown and along area corridors. The Town of Kernersville does a wonderful job of exciting the locals and the anticipation of the season by lining street lights with holiday wreaths and silhouettes in our parks, town hall, and welcome areas.

What better way to get into the holiday spirit by strolling through the Downtown Kernersville Christmas Around the World event, and shop local on Saturday, December 3 from 4:00-7:00p.m. Many downtown merchants will welcome various customers and celebrations from over 27 countries around the world by opening their hearts and shops to Kernersville and the surrounding community. Kernersville Downtown has unique one-of-a-kind shops to browse through and you are sure to find that special Christmas gift for a family member or friend.

Afterwards, attend the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Harmon Park, which marks the official start to the holiday season. Festivities will include singing carols with the local East Forsyth Madrigals and Caprice, sipping hot cocoa by the fire provided by Pierce Jefferson Funeral Home, and a visit from Santa and friends, who will be lead into the park by the Kernersville Fire and Rescue Department and the Glenn High Marching band. The tree lighting festivities will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Kernersville Parks and Recreation will distribute the 2017 Winter Leisure Guide later this month! Look for all your favorite programs and events to kick-off the New Year.
