Strolling the Streets of Kernersville

by Chris Comer
Where in the world can you go to enjoy history, friendly faces, beautiful shops, delicious food in a wonderful atmosphere, have a locally brewed beverage, and listen to music? Right around the corner, right here in Kernersville!
With the weather cooling and fall in the air, there is not a better time to spend some time in Downtown Kernersville! September will be an especially exciting month with much to see and do.
Downtown Sidewalk Saturdays are in full swing! Sidewalk Saturdays incorporate our entire community. Saturday, September 9 will be no different. Shop for that special gift, buy a piece of art and have that special piece framed. Many of the shops have sales and specials. The streets are full of music, and shops and restaurants are welcoming with friendly faces. Come shop, enjoy a bite to eat, have a drink with your friends and enjoy our beautiful parks. Sidewalk Saturdays begin at 10am.
Saturday, September 9 is also a special day for our 13 schools. Six of our downtown shops are participating in Shopping for Education: Cake & All Things Yummy, Let’s Shoppe!, Southwinds Gallery, Trendsetters Styling Salon, Tiquers Alley, and The Creek Boutique.
The Kernersville Chamber of Commerce, participating shops as well as local businesses, private donors and participating restaurants all work together to bring support to our 13 local schools. Shopping for Education works much like Eating for Education. Shop at participating Shopping for Education locations and a portion of your purchase will go right back to Kernersville schools.
100% of Eating for Education, Shopping for Education, private donors and business donor’s funds go to our schools through Education Grants.
Teachers have many, many opportunities to teach our future leaders in different ways. The teachers are creative and know what their classroom of students would connect with. Our teachers may want to do something that is in addition to the studies that the school system provides. This is where the grant money comes in. Thank you for shopping at a participating store and for your support.
On the same day as Sidewalk Saturdays, the Old Salem Chapter of Antique Automobile Club of America celebrates classic cars with the Downtown Cruise In. September 9 will be no different. Enjoy cars from all era’s with much history behind them. Proud owners are on hand to answer questions throughout Main Street. Just another reason to stroll the streets of Kernersville between 4pm and 7pm.

Another reason to stroll through Downtown this month is the beautiful, hand painted chairs that will begin to show up at each location downtown. At the end of the month, you will be able to enjoy painted chairs throughout Kernersville. The CHAIRity event allows you to vote for your favorite chair. The grand finale is the auction where you can bid on and take home your favorite chair. The Chairity event is an event that is a collaboration between Eclection and Next Step Ministries.
We are looking forward to all that fall brings to our community. Come on out and enjoy the weather while strolling the streets of Downtown Kernersville!
