A Successful Holiday Season and Plans for 2021 Events

By Kelly Hargett

The Hometown Christmas Village at the Kernersville Museum was a huge success this year. More than 2,500 people visited the Historical Village at the Kernersville Museum and explored the newly completed weaning cabin, stable, and tobacco barn. The success of Hometown Christmas and the popularity of our synthetic ice rink located at the Museum has helped us to have the most successful year yet.

With that success, we are excited about the events we have planned for the upcoming year. Of course, Covid-19 has caused a great deal of uncertainty with event planning; however, with the use of our new Historical Village, we are able to offer events that allow for social distancing while enjoying our new facilities. As restrictions on gatherings ease, we will continue to update our calendar with more events. Here is a glimpse of the coming year’s activities!

On March 31, the Town of Kernersville will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its incorporation. Plans are underway to throw a town-wide celebration. Due to Covid-19, plans have been pushed back to celebrate in the Fall of 2021. Please check our website and social media pages to keep up to date on news about this exciting event.

Celebrate Easter with the Kernersville Museum. On April 3, the Kernersville Museum will host an Easter Egg Hunt. Tickets are $20/Family (4 kids per ticket). The Easter Bunny will make an appearance for pictures. Find eggs hidden throughout the village. Eggs will have prizes, gift cards, and/or coupons for local vendors. Tickets go on sale March 1 and are limited, so purchase yours early!

Spring Folly 2021 will take place on May 7, 8, and 9. The Museum will have educational displays in the Historical Village throughout the day on May 8. Also, beginning with the first Saturday in June, the Museum will host a small vendor fair in the village the first Saturday of each month, June through October.

The fall fun begins with our 4th Annual Chicken Stew at the Kernersville Museum on October 16 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Current plans are to gather in our traditional way and enjoy Chicken Stew with our community. Tickets are limited and we strongly encourage people to purchase their tickets ahead of time. Last year tickets sold out. Tickets go on sale on August 18.

Plans are underway for the 3rd Annual Ghost Tour. Tickets will go on sale in September. These tours are extremely popular and sell out every year. Reserve your tickets early to ensure you get a spot.

Hometown Christmas 2021 will open on November 26, 2021. A village full of Christmas trees decorated by local families and businesses, story times with Santa, skating on our synthetic ice rink, and much, much more. There is no better place to get into the Holiday Spirit than at the Kernersville Museum in the heart of Downtown Kernersville.

When you support and participate in the events at the Kernersville Museum, you help us to keep admission to the Museum free, preserve artifacts, and create free community programming. To visit the Kernersville Museum, please stop by Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Due to Covid-19 and the Governor’s orders, the Kernersville Museum will operate at 50% capacity until restrictions are lifted. Currently, face masks are required to visit inside the Museum.
