If you are like me, you eagerly count down the days until that first walk around the neighborhood in early to mid-spring. When the dogwoods bloom, the scent of honeysuckle envelops us, and the nights seem to get a bit longer. That is the time I get excited for a new season! It is good to change up your habits once it is warmer outside so you can enjoy spending more time outdoors. There are lots of spring activities to explore outside during this time of year. You might be surprised at what your community has to offer and the things you can discover.
Kernersville Parks and Recreation (KPRD) has a great spring and summer filled with programs and activities for you and your family!
Each year, families gather for our summer screenings with a family-friendly movie on a huge inflatable screen. Our first film for the season will be, Trolls World Tour, and will be held on Friday, May 21. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to relax, and arrive early to enjoy a food truck and local vendors before the show. Movies begin at sunset, so start times may vary. This event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is required to follow COVID guidelines. For full updated details visit our Facebook page.
If you are a fan of our movies, you will love Music in the Park! Come out to enjoy an evening of live music in the park with your family and friends with fantastic music by Jukebox Rehab on Saturday, June 5 from 5:30-8:30PM! Please remember to bring your lawn chairs or blankets for seating. There will be concessions onsite for purchase. Tickets must be purchased in advance and go on sale May 1 at www.kvparks.com.
Kernersville Parks and Recreation is continuing our alliance with High Point Parks and Recreation to co-host a FREE Veteran’s Archery Clinic in honor of Memorial Day! In 2020, the event was held in Kernersville, so to switch it up we are heading to Oakview Recreation Center in High Point on Monday, May 10 from 1:00 – 4:00PM. Adaptive equipment will be provided, so all ages and abilities can be successful. Be on the lookout for more details on our Facebook page and website at www.kvparks.com, or contact our Adaptive and Inclusion Coordinator, Casey Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 336-564-2241.
