Hannah Moerk is a scholar-athlete of East Forsyth High School.  She can usually be found running after school hours, tirelessly training and preparing for both cross-country and track and field events.  Just like running, being successful in life is all about taking the right steps.  Hannah is about to take a very big step.  She is about to make the transition from High School Athletics to College Athletics.  For her, a new opportunity is just around the corner.

Hannah has always loved running, but was not involved in the sport for her first two years of high school, taking on soccer instead.  After her sophomore year, she decided to start running competitively.  Ever since she began, she has enjoyed every moment.  As a middle distance runner, her training consists of long runs as well as shorter speed workouts and tempo runs.  “Pushing myself harder than I ever imagined and the joy and freedom that running brings is my favorite part of it all,” Hannah said.  She went on to say that the best memory of her career at East Forsyth was running through the cross-country trail in the mud and rain.

After graduating with the class of 2014 this June, Hannah will be taking yet another huge step.  She will begin academically thriving and running for Davidson College’s Track and Field and Cross-Country team.  This athlete will have no shortage of support.  For inspiration and positive influence, she has no need to look far from home.  “My Dad as my coach and my Mom as my biggest fan are the ones who inspired me to keep running,” she explained.  Hannah’s best advice to a younger athlete who someday wants to be as successful as she has been is that consistent hard work and training really does pay off

As Hannah Moerk transitions from high school to college running, the finish line of her journey is in plain sight.  One thing is for certain, this scholar-athlete will not stop running until she reaches her goals both in the classroom and on the track.
