Summertime in Kernersville

chamberJUNE2014by Chris Comer

It is summertime!  The time of year we look forward to swimming, picnics, great weather, and lots of family time.  This summer will be no different.  Family time is important to each of us and we certainly have a wonderful community to spend it in.  Come along; let’s check out some of the opportunities for this summer.

There is plenty to do in Kernersville for everyone.  Among other activities to do in Kernersville this summer, do not miss the Music at Twilight series, the Downtown event series, 4th of July, and Kernersville Day at the Dash.

Music at Twilight

Each summer we look forward to the Music at Twilight series at the town hall courtyard.  Thanks to FastMed Urgent Care, there will be plenty of great music, food, and fellowship from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday evenings for the entire family once again this year.   Check out the dates and plan to attend!

• May 29:  Summer is On the Way – Glenn, East, and Bishop McGuiness High Schools will all perform.  Young children can enjoy the inflatables.

• June 26:  Patriotic theme with a live band and plenty of food.

• July24:  Police Community Safety night with the Deluge playing live music.  You do not want to miss this band.

• August 14:  It’s Back to School – Hayride, back to school items for the kids, and inflatables.  Great music, food, and fun for the entire family.

Downtown Kernersville

Come on Downtown to do some shopping and enjoy the classic car Cruise-In.  Get in on the deals with the sidewalk sales and visit all of the downtown merchants.  The monthly Cruise-In has been popular for years in downtown Kernersville.  There will be cars from all era’s, food, and music all on North Main Street.  Join us for the Sidewalk Sale from 10am-2pm and Cruise -In from 4pm-8pm on the second Saturday of each month, June through October.  The scheduled dates are June 14, July 12, August 9, September 13, and October 11.  To learn more about Downtown Kernersville events and opportunities, visit www.DiscoverKernersville.com.

4th of July Celebration

Who can forget the 4th of July celebration right here in Kernersville!  For years the community has come to know the celebration and look forward to all the activities.  Make a day of it by running in the 5K race, going to the parade, and visiting your favorite pool during the day.  Come on by after 6pm behind Kernersville Elementary School for fun, food by the Kernersville Raiders, and music.  We are very excited about the bands that will play this year.  Bring your family and your lawn chairs and plan to stay for the beautiful fireworks display that begins between 9pm and 9:30pm.

Kernersville Day at the Dash

A must not miss each year for our family is Kernersville Day at the Dash.  We take the family, enjoy great food, and cheer on our hometown Winston-Salem Dash.   The Dash is the minor league baseball team in Winston-Salem.  They are a Class High-A team in the Carolina League and have been a farm team of the Chicago White Sox since 1997.

The Dash has long been a staple of the community.  They have had many names, but settled on the Dash a few years ago, and built a state of the art ball park just off of interstate 40 at Broad Street Downtown.  Kernersville Day at the Dash will be August 2.  Tickets include a hat and fun for the whole family!

So there you have it, dates on your calendar for everyone to enjoy this summer.  We look forward to seeing you.  If you have any questions or want more information, do not hesitate to contact your Kernersville Chamber of Commerce at 993-4521, stop by the office at 136 East Mountain Street, or visit our new website, www.KernersvilleNC.com.
