Hot Fun in the Summertime

For many Americans, the Fourth of July holiday weekend is a time to spend with family and friends enjoying picnics, barbeques, parades, fireworks, and relaxing by a pool.  Kernersville hosts many outdoor activities for families to enjoy along with the traditional small town favorites.  Kernersville will kick off its July Fourth celebration with a parade through historic Downtown Kernersville at 9:00am.

Looking for a way to beat the heat?  Head over to the Kernersville YMCA Slide pool and Waterpark for the Annual Splash B4 the Blast, hosted by Kernersville Parks and Recreation.  Spend the day by the pool enjoying your family, sun, prizes, giveaways, and best of all free hotdogs (while supplies last) beginning at 10:30am.  Community non-member rates do apply.

End the night with a bang!  The Kernersville fireworks show will begin at 9:15pm.  Come join the fun with live music, volleyball, kids’ activities, and food before the fireworks behind Kernersville Elementary on the Raider field at 6:00pm.

Kernersville Parks and Recreation is honored to host the Play 60 Carolina Panthers Clinic again this year at Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex on Thursday, July 10 at 10:00am.  The Carolina Panthers are recognized as an NFL leader in youth health and fitness programs.  The team offers a variety of programs designed to help children establish positive health and fitness habits to curb the rise in childhood obesity.  The Panthers are avid supporters of the NFL’s Play 60 initiative, which encourages children to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.  The Play 60 clinic is a free and non-contact grass roots program where participants run through tunnels, jump over bags, tackle dummies, catch footballs, touch cones, toss balls at a target and do physical conditioning exercises, all led by Panthers staff and community volunteers. This camp is designed for rising 2nd – 7th graders.  Visit our website to register at www.toknc.com/pr.  Pre-registration is recommended.
