Something to Do for Kids 1 to 92…

Kernersville is now a winter wonderland as the downtown area is decorated with blinkie lights, evergreens, wreaths, and of course, trees!  As an added bonus, there are a host of holiday events to get everybody ready for the season.

You can help Santa and Mrs. Claus light the Kernersville Christmas tree at the Town’s annual ceremony on Saturday, December 6, in Harmon Park.  The evening’s activities start at 7:00pm, and will run for about an hour and a half.  The Tree Lighting ceremony is a highly-anticipated event, drawing people of all ages to the heart of Downtown Kernersville.  The holiday season officially commences when the switch is flipped and the lights begin to sparkle!

The Tree Lighting Ceremony will feature hot cocoa and donuts; courtesy of Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home, Christmas carols from the East Forsyth Madrigals and Caprice ensembles, and the Glenn High marching band will assist in the arrival of Santa and friends to light the tree.  The local Girl Scouts will also join us with the lighting of luminaries around the tree.  Only severely inclement weather will cancel the event, which has no make-up date.

The Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking registration for its winter classes and programs.  Why squander money on frivolous gifts when you can “Give the Gift of Recreation” for the Holidays?  The Gift of Recreation comes in all packages and has something for all ages, genders, and interests.  Kernersville Parks & Recreation invites you to give the gift of health and well-being by registering for a class for yourself or your family.  Our programs promote healthy habits and provide opportunities for positive growth and life-long learning—the perfect gift for anyone you care about.  Be sure to check out our upcoming Winter 2015 Leisure Guide later this month to see what we have to offer and “Give the Gift of Recreation” this season!
