Team Building at Its Finest

By Chris Comer

Now in its second year, the K-Mazing Race has proved to be a great opportunity for local businesses to work together and make memories outside of the office building.  Teamwork is a necessity and a key to success in the workplace.  But when do you get to work together in a setting that has nothing to do with your business, but for the simple pleasure of having fun?

Last year, teams from Truliant Federal Credit Union, Best Logistics Group, Highland Industries, and the Kernersville Family YMCA went head-to-head.  They first began with putting the Kernersville Puzzle together at the Kernersville Museum Foundation, then it was off to the Kernersville Family YMCA for kayaking in the pool with a wooden spoon paddle, and a basketball shoot.

Finally, all the teams met at Fourth of July Park where the Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department had prepared Field Day games.  The three-legged race and wet sponge pass were all competed in good, clean fun.  Then came the ominous Tug of War.  Now this was a test of endurance, pure will, and strength.  Teams were gritting their teeth, cheering each other on, and digging in their heels.  In the end, the team that came through at the top had enough points to win the coveted trophy.

This year is assured to be just as fun; teams will work through our town in a scavenger hunt.  This is sure to be teambuilding at its finest.  Six teams will be accepted this year intensifying the competition even more.  Each team consists of four players, and competitors will not be allowed to use their phones to help them in the challenges.  Food trucks will be waiting at the finish line to help celebrate and commemorate the outing.

Teams will travel throughout the downtown area participating in many different challenges.  Locations for the scavenger hunt include the Library, the Chamber of Commerce, Ellington Jewelers, Musten & Crutchfield, Giadas, Hedgecock Framing, Junktique Alleyway, and a special stop at the Town Hall Courtyard for our sponsor, Truliant Federal Credit Union.

The Kernersville Chamber of Commerce invites all to come out and cheer on the teams as they run around Downtown hoping to get the win!
