COME CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE!

BY CHRIS COMER

Our Independence is a way of life for us. July 4th is a time to celebrate our independence. Since July 4, 1776 our country has been declared free. Fireworks, family reunions, concerts, barbecues, picnics and parades are popular past times to celebrate. The Kernersville community does not disappoint!

The opportunities we have to live as we would like, make our own schedules and enjoy the fruits of our labor are all because of The Declaration of Independence of the United States when the Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain and were now independent, united and free states.

Our beautiful parks and lands have many places to play, have a picnic and even fish. The smell of watermelon, barbeque grills and corn on the cob permeate air. Fresh cut grass allows us to enjoy a clean place to have fun. Cornhole, volleyball and baseball are played at random with smiles and laughter galore

THE RUN
The Rotary Club of Kernersville is hosting its 24th Run at 8:30 am and is a certified course as well as a fun run/walk. With a start time at 8:30 am, runners will run west from East Mountain Street to Fourth of July Park and back. Register by visiting the Kernersville Rotary Club Facebook page on the 4th of July Run link. Hundreds of people and their families will be running and walking this course to start off their July 4th celebration. Cheering can be heard from thousands of spectators along the route.

THE PARADE
The Kernersville July 4th Parade sets in motion the celebration of our independence with the Rotary Club’s leadership. Starting at the Kernersville Elementary School at 9 am, there is no stone left unturned in this parade from classic cars, tractors, hot rods, semi-trucks, excavators and more. Anyone along the route has a great seat. Starting on West Mountain Street and finishing on East Mountain Street at Broad Street, the streets are lined with locals and visitors alike.

THE CONCERT & FIREWORKS
The concert and fireworks are a special time in Kernersville. At 6:30 pm the Legacy Motown Revue will take the stage. Singing and dancing to the newest and oldies music, you will want to bring your dancing shoes. Kernersville Raiders football makes sure everyone has something to eat. This is a fundraiser for the Raiders, come hungry! Raider Field is a perfect spot to view the fireworks. The evening finishes with a spectacular firework show put on by Kernersville Parks and Recreation.

There is no place like Kernersville to live, do business and bring your family. July 4th is no different. With the local community pool located at the Kernersville Family YMCA, local neighborhood pools and Kernersville Lake Park to boat and fish the day is complete.

Let’s celebrate our independence in Kernersville and enjoy all that our community has to offer. Happy Independence Day!
