Have you found yourself wondering how you have been doing with your cholesterol, blood glucose, and triglycerides?  Do you have medication that you would really like to throw away?

Take advantage of all this and more at next month’s Healthy Active Adults Day.

• Healthy Active Adults Day, Monday, April 14 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

• Free screenings, Exercise Classes, Food, and Entertainment

• Held at Kernersville Family YMCA located at 1113 West Mountain Street in Kernersville

• Come to Coffee at the Cross service with music, coffee, and donuts at 8 a.m.

In its 10th year, Healthy Active Adults Day has received the reputation of a “must visit” event.  It is held at the Kernersville Family YMCA and over 50 vendors will be in attendance.   The day has something to offer for everyone.  There is plenty of parking and easy access to the YMCA with golf carts (thanks to Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home) available for shuttle service right to the front door.

Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center, our title sponsor, will have many screenings that day as well as other vendors attending. Some screenings being offered:

• Blood Pressure

• Body Mass Index

• Cholesterol, Triglycerides

• Glucose

• A1C Diabetes Screening

• Brown Bag Prescription Drug Program

• Medication Disposal

• Many more!

Healthy Active Adults Day is a day for fun too.  David Calhoun, A Pocketful of Miracles, will be entertaining us with his amazing magic.  The day is meant to work on the health of our spirit, mind, and body.  With Coffee at the Cross, a magician, exercise classes, and health screenings we hope you will feel great when leaving.

A common concern when taking numerous medications and visiting different doctors is the chance that a medication may counteract another.  Join the Brown Bag program.  Bring all of your medications in a brown bag on April 14.  The pharmacist from Novant Health will talk to you about your medications and make sure they are working together as they should.

Looking at the facts, our health is based on numerous different things.  Doctors agree; prevention is the best medicine.  It is as easy as 1, 2, 3: eat smart, exercise, and get regular health screenings.  Sounds simple right?

Eating Smart:  We all try to eat smart, but how do we go about it day in and day out?  Moderation is the best policy.  A great guideline that may help is visiting myplate.gov.  The average body requires a certain amount of protein, grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy each day.  Each body has specific needs- do not forget to include your physician on information in your daily nutrition regimen.

Exercising for a Healthier You:  We have a beautiful climate in North Carolina that allows us to be outside a major part of the year to walk, run, work in the yard, along with many other activities.  Are you someone who prefers to be indoors?  Did you know that cleaning the house can burn calories and get your heart rate up as well?  Yes, surveys showed recently that those that clean the house weekly burn just as many calories as working out at a high rate for a 20 minute period.  Hey, that is a start!

Health Screenings:  Each year people in the United States receive diagnoses that could have been diverted with simple health screenings.  We understand that going to the doctor is important. If you have not had the opportunity to visit your doctor lately for these simple screenings come by the Kernersville Family YMCA on April 14 to receive them free!

April is National Physical and Mental Health Month (among other national recognition of very important causes).  Why not make April the month to treat yourself to the screenings, fun, and fellowship that will do your body good?

Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center (Title Sponsor) along with Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service and Podiatry Associates of Winston-Salem will be Major Sponsors.  Listen for more information on Curtis Broadcasting/WSJS.  Donuts and coffee will be donated by Intown Donutz.
