Summer Camp is Back

By Heather Wood

Looking for a COVID safe summer camp for your child? You are in luck! The Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department will host a full-day camp, and our goals are simple: to provide positive experiences for the development of leisure skills, good sportsmanship, positive self-esteem, respect for others, teamwork, self-discipline, and most importantly, FUN!

We are changing our camp format this year where each week is themed for the kids to TRY something new and learn a sport or activity! We will have contracted instructors leading and teaching kids in the morning or afternoon during a portion of camp, with the second half being filled with games, activities, park play, and other scheduled visits depending on the evolving government and safety guidelines.

This camp is specifically designed for youth ages 6-12. The camp will run for 8 weeks from June 14 – August 13. Camp will meet from 7:30AM to 5:30PM, Monday-Friday at the Kernersville Community Recreation Center.

We take each child’s well-being seriously. Our facility has very strict guidelines in place to keep our campers and staff safe during these unfamiliar times. Masks are required indoors at all times and participants are encouraged to maintain 6-feet of distance between themselves and others when applicable. Our staff will be waiting at the entrance each day to escort your child inside where their temperature will be checked by a hands-free device.

We are also happy to provide Inclusion Support for campers with physical, cognitive, communication, or behavioral needs. Inclusion Support includes modifications, adaptations, behavior support plans, therapeutic recreation services, and the addition of inclusion staff when needed due to a disability or concern. Please contact Heather Wood at 336-996-6421 or for more information.

You can register online, by phone, or in person (by appointment only). Be sure to take advantage of our Early Bird 5% discount by registering before April 19. Call our office at 336-996-3062 to learn how to receive our sibling discount. For more information, visit

My 11 year old grand daughter stays with me during the summer months. I am looking for something for her to do but have instances that she would not be there or would leave early. Is there anything that we could get her into to keep her busy.
