Here Comes the Honey

By Heather Chapman

Each year, the third Saturday of August brings a wholesome family event for everyone to enjoy! The Kernersville Honeybee Festival presented by Cone Health Med Center of Kernersville is in its 48th year, and only happens here in Kernersville on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

The Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department has been busy as a bee, mapping vendor locations, food prep and beautifying Fourth of July park for Kernersville’s biggest craft festival. The park will be “buzzing” as we will celebrate this free event from 10:00am – 5:00pm in Fourth of July Park.

The Honeybee Festival is known for its authentic arts & crafts vendors that come from near and far to be a part of this unique event. These artists have invested hours of passion, skill, and time to present you with the most unique “one of kind” items for sale. Stroll through the beautiful, shaded tree canopy walking trails in the park, and check out some of the “bee themed” crafts that are available.

The Honeybee Festival would not be complete without our honey vendors! There will be local honey available, as well as a first-hand glance at the live bee hives for spectators to view.  For a full list of vendors, visit our website at www.kvparks.com, and click the “Honeybee Festival” tab.

Our food truck vendors will “BEE” out in full force offering a mouth-watering feast that features a variety of gourmet food options. Follow the aroma of all the different cuisines diffused through the air, to the main parking lot stretch where the food court will be located. From classic favorites to new exotic flavors, the food truck options are sure to tantalize your taste buds!

This year’s festival will be full of family fun. Be sure to stop by the Kernersville Parks and Recreation tent where you can take a selfie with the giant bee mural on display.  We will be hosting another Scavenger Hunt this year to “find the bees” throughout Fourth of July Park.  Winners will receive a FREE Honeybee t-shirt.  For more information on time of hunt and details, visit our website at www.kvparks.com under the Honeybee tab.

“All aboard” the train and take a ride through the park while the festival is going on.  Follow the signs throughout the park to find the train station around shelter #3.  Be aware of train crossings signs for safety when strolling through the park during the day of the festival.  Be sure to check our website for more information.

If you are visiting the festival, we encourage you to park at Kernersville Elementary School. You will NOT have access to the park for parking day of the event. For more information, please visit our website at www.kvparks.com or call us at 336-996-3062.

We cannot wait for a “bee”utiful day in the park celebrating honeybees and family fun!
