Performance On and Off the Court

Some athletes begin training as young as five or six with hopes of winning championships.  For Bishop McGuinness senior Anna Petrangeli, her journey began when she picked up a tennis racquet in seventh grade.  Since, Anna has worked to become a four-year All-Conference player and MVP, as well as earn multiple state championship wins along the way.

With Anna on the roster, the Bishop McGuinness varsity girls’ tennis team clinched the State Championship in 2014 and 2015.  In addition, in 2015 Anna and her doubles partner, Morgan Auger, won the doubles State Championship.  “Doubles is my favorite event and I love playing with Morgan.  It is very fun to play with one of my good friends,” said Anna.

Obviously, Anna is a hard worker and team player.  Her coach describes her as having great endurance on the hotter autumn days, as well as being dependable to win a tiebreaker.  Anna described winning both the team and doubles state titles in 2015 as the most amazing event of her tennis career.  “Winning states validated all of the hard work that my team and I put into the game,” she said.

Despite the time it takes to be such a successful player, Anna’s hard work does not end on the courts.  She brings her dedication to the classroom as well.  She is an honors student with a 4.6 GPA.  Her favorite class is AP Calculus and she hopes to major in chemical engineering.  In addition, Anna says she may return to medical school after college to become a trauma surgeon.  Even with the amount of schoolwork she will have keeping her occupied, Anna is still considering playing club tennis in college.

As an athlete, tennis is not the only sport Anna enjoys.  She has also played on the girls’ lacrosse team since her sophomore year and plans to play this spring.  Anna has dedicated a tremendous amount of time to her school, both athletically and academically.

Nothing can be more satisfying than ending a career with a win, and Anna managed to claim two.  Her phenomenal performance at states in 2015, as well as her ability to balance her rigorous schedule, are nothing short of amazing.  Even though Anna’s time at Bishop McGuinness will soon be over, her talent has created success for the school and her team, as well as many wonderful memories.
