PSA for all Parents: Movies in the Park series should be at the forefront of your family’s to-do list this summer! Four times a year, our community comes together to watch free (free admission – i.e. no tickets required!) movies under the stars. Kernersville Parks & Recreation’s summer movie nights are a great time and place to bring the whole family for a fun movie in Harmon Park. The outdoor films begin at dusk, with start times fluctuating depending on sunset times. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy big screen entertainment. All movies are family-friendly. Come early to get a good spot, participate in pre-movie activities, and purchase dinner via food truck! (No dishes! Yeah!)

This month’s featured presentation will be, “SING”, on Friday June 19. In a city of humanoid animals, a hustling theatre manager’s attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates! Its finalists find that their lives will never be the same and if you are a big fan of American Idol or The Voice, you will LOVE this animated flick!

Because these movie events take place outside, they are susceptible to weather-related cancellations. We will let moviegoers know as soon as possible if this happens via our Kernersville Parks & Recreation social media channels.

Spend the day immersed in culture at the Kernersville Sister City Multicultural Food Truck Festival on June 17, 2017 in Fourth of July Park from 10:00am – 2:00pm. Try foods from around the world including French, Haitian, Mexican, and much more! There will also be live performances and music. This is a family friendly event with NO admission fee. Parking will be available at Kernersville Elementary School and the park’s parking lot off of Bodenhamer Street. The purpose of the Sister City Program is to establish and maintain various Sister City relationships with towns and cities throughout the world. This is in order to foster cultural, educational, economic, and social feelings and exchanges between the citizens and residents of the Kernersville community and surrounding areas, and other cultures throughout the world. This event will help bring multicultural awareness to Kernersville, in the most delicious way! Planning truly inclusive events like these fosters collaboration, encourages communication, and enhances deep engagement.

Do you jump out of bed first thing in the morning and clip on your Fitbit to start racking up your steps? Or wait . . . maybe there’s an APP for that? Adults and kids have become consumed by the fitness-tracker craze! Everyone seems to have become addicted to monitoring their step counts now-a-days. But yes, if that translates into moving more to stay ahead of their friends and family—that is a WIN. If it is 5 o’clock and you still have not reached your steps for the day, what is your usual plan to get them in? If you are counting steps and need a jump start to reach the top of your “friends list,” registration is open NOW for Zumba, Self-Defense, Family Yoga, Kernersville Area Tennis, and T’ai Chi. If you are competing with friends to get bragging rights in your Workweek Hustle, Weekend Warrior, Daily Showdown, or Goal Day needs, Kernersville Parks & Recreation can give you a little boost!

The Town of Kernersville is partnering with the Kernersville YMCA & Kernersville Chamber of Commerce to offer some good old-fashioned 4th of July festivities for the whole family to enjoy. A patriotic parade, 5K run, hot dogs, fun in the sun, and an evening filled with music, games, and a fireworks show is a great way to spend Independence Day with your loved ones.

The day’s events kick off at 11:00am, Tuesday, July 4 at the Kernersville YMCA Slide Pool & Waterpark for Splash B4 the Blast. Activities, games, giveaways, and FREE hot dogs (while supplies last) will be available until 1:00pm. Community rates for non-members do apply. Please call 336-996-2231 for pricing.
