BLUE JEANS, AUCTIONS, & FUN

BY LYNNE GARMS

The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville is proudly hosting their 26th annual Auction Gala on April 12 at Summerfield Farm with festivities beginning at 6:30pm. Tickets are available now!

Anita McNeill, Executive Director of The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville commented, “We are so excited about this year’s event. The theme is “Blue Jeans Gala.” Come casual or dressy, everyone is welcome! The evening features a delicious buffet dinner catered by Above and Beyond Catering, a craft beer and wine pull by Fitzpedia, Restaurant Roulette, and spirited auctions, both live and silent. Danny Jefferson will again emcee the program. The proceeds from this event help to champion and sustain the adults in our community who are aging or with disabilities.”

The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville is an interfaith ministry of volunteers which provides fourteen services for adults who are aging or disabled in the community. The services include transportation, telephone reassurance, handy person assistance, home visitation, respite care, Project Joy, dental clinics, tax assistance, SHIPP counseling, one-on-one counseling, caregiver education and support groups, the Bill Radisch Computer Center, durable equipment loans, advocacy, and a Senior Center of Excellence offering programs and socialization opportunities. In 2018 we served over 5,790 individuals through our services, including giving over 2,775 rides to medical appointments and necessary errands. Our Senior Enrichment Center offered 4,198 program opportunities with 1,628 individuals participating in these programs.

Nearly 1 in every 7 people in our population are 65 or older. It is predicted that over the next decade this number will double. Americans who are aging are a diverse, healthy and contributing section of our community! This event is very important because it is our largest fundraising event of the year. Without these funds, we would not be able to provide the abundance and quality of services we do and the number of those needing our services is increasing every day.

Tickets to the “Blue Jeans Gala” cost $75 per person and may be purchased on-line at www.ShepCtrKville.com. You don’t want to miss our live and silent auction featuring camping, entertainment, personal care items, children’s toys, golf and sports packages, home and yard beautification packages, getaways to Myrtle Beach, SC, Blowing Rock, Duck, Lake Hickory, NC and MORE!
