Summer Bucket List Activities

Summer is a chance to try something new, improve a skill, read for fun, and just get outside. Take a look at the many ways kids can play, grow, and learn this summer. We also offer lots of fun activities for adults and families to do together. We hope to see you this summer!

Read a Book: Storytime in the Park
We are happy to announce, our continued partnership with the Kernersville Public Library, and the return of Storytime in the Park. Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, and puppets in Harmon Park this summer on Saturday’s: June 4, July 2, and August 6. Storytime in the Park, is designed for children 8 years and under, their caregivers, and siblings. In case of inclement weather, story time will be cancelled and details can be found on the Kernersville Paddison Memorial Branch Libraries Facebook page (FCPL4KIDS).

Learn a New Sport: Mentor Tennis Camps
Learn and/or improve your Junior Tennis skills at our camps this summer. Each day we will build on different aspects of tennis. We are offering 5 weeks throughout the summer, from 9:00AM – 1:00PM (Monday – Thursday) in Fourth of July Park. Learn to Shoot a Bow & Arrow: 1-Day Archery Clinics
We are offering two opportunities this summer to explore archery. Each one-hour class teaches the basics of Intro Archery and Intermediate Archery. You will learn safety, equipment, and basic shooting skills. Note, all equipment will be provided, and personal equipment will not be prohibited. Classes are offered on the following Saturdays: June 11 and July 9. For more information and times, visit our website.

In addition, we are also offering an Adaptive Archery event as well. This event will be open to people with all abilities and adaptive equipment will be provided. Join us on Saturday, June 4 from 10:00AM – Noon at the Kernersville Community Recreation Center. For details and future adaptive events visit our website at www.kvparks.com.

Try a New Exercise: Barre Classes
If you are looking to get fit and tone your body for the summer, Barre class is a fusion of ballet and Pilates. A fun exercise that incorporates cardio and resistance training with balance and strength. Barre classes are designed for everyone. Join Ashley Price on Thursdays from 7:15-8:15PM, throughout the summer. You may register as you go, or for multiple classes and receive a discount.

Watch a Movie Under the Stars: Movies in the Park
Beach chairs? Check. Blankets? Check. Ingredients for a healthy picnic? Check. Sounds like you are ready for a new season of Kernersville Parks and Recreation Summer Movies in the Park series. Summer Movies in the Park is the largest free and family-friendly outdoor movie series in Kernersville. Shows run June, July and September at Harmon Park. Each movie event gives residents a reason to visit their local parks after dark and bring additional safety and security to residents’ favorite locales. Events begin as early as 6:30PM, though actual movie start times are 15 minutes after sunset. Before the movie, we provide additional entertainment like games, music, dancing, vendors, and food trucks. This month’s featured presentation will be “LUCA” on Friday, June 20. We hope to see you there for this fun, free, family-friendly event!

Get Outdoors: Visit Your local park
There is something very therapeutic about being outdoors and getting some exercise at the same time. Find a local park, pick a trail that you have never hiked before, then pack a traditional wicker basket with your favorite picnic foods and put on your hiking shoes.

Visit a Farmers Market: Kernersville Rotary Farmers Market
Enjoy strolling through the summer farmers market while gathering fresh and local ingredients for your dinner. Take your bounty home and try making a new delicious healthy recipe.

Be a Tourist in Your Own City: Visit Local Hotspots
Can you confidently say that you know your city in and out? Take time to visit more than just your usual hangouts. You could discover streets, shops, and landmarks that you never knew existed.

Enjoy the sunshine, warm breezes, and relaxation that the season brings. Do not be too busy to make memories this summer.
