Spring Fever!
By Heather Wood
Hello March! We are ready to welcome back all things flowers and sunshine!
The cold may have never bothered Elsa, but it certainly bothers me! I am officially ready to see the winter season go, and now that it is March, I cannot help but look forward to the coming (hopefully warmer) weeks with a kind of giddy, frantic excitement. I am like those kids in the “The Night Before Christmas” except it is springtime, and my head is dancing with visions of flowers, and sunshine—not sugar plums. Have you caught spring fever yet?
Thinking about what to do with the kids since they have no school? No problem! Enroll your camper in our Spring Break Camp for the opportunity to have fun with many activities such as games, arts & crafts, local parks, and a field trip to Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC. You can enjoy peace of mind knowing that your camper is enjoying enrichment activities under the watchful eye of our trained Kernersville Parks and Recreation staff. Your camper will make new friends, gain confidence, and expand their horizons. Campers must bring their own lunch, drink, and snack. Kernersville Parks and Recreation Spring Break Camp will be April 2-6 from 9:00AM- 5:30PM for campers ages 6-12, with extended care options available. Registration is now open. Spring is right around the corner, if you are looking to bring the colorful flowers indoors, join us for our “Early Blooms,” acrylic painting class on Tuesday, March 6, from 1:00-4:00PM at our recreation center. Students will follow step-by-step demonstrations and instruction by the instructor in design, color, and application of paint. The Parks and Recreation Summer Camp program is an exciting chance for children ages 6 to 12 to have a fun-filled summer! Last year’s camp activities included: daily excursions to local parks, arts and crafts, cultural and educational trips, field games (kickball, soccer, wiffleball, relay races), swimming, and field trips.
This recreational “playground” camp features creative group activities and opportunities for individual growth. Our goals are simple: to provide positive experiences for the development of leisure experiences, good sportsmanship, positive self-esteem, respect for others, teamwork, self-discipline, and most importantly—FUN! Each week, campers will enjoy visiting our local parks, swimming, service projects, and a field trip!
This camp is specifically designed for youth ages 6-12. If your child is younger than the minimum age, your child will be accepted if they have attended Kindergarten. A birth certificate may be required if there is a question about a child’s correct age.
All summer camp counselors are employed by the Town of Kernersville. Each counselor has been drug-tested, passed a thorough background check, and has completed camp training. Our counselor-to-camper ratio is 1:12. On field trip days, we will have additional staff and volunteers to keep campers safe and happy!
This year, camp will run for eight weeks. Camp will meet from 9:00AM to 5:30PM Monday thru Friday, June 18– August 17, 2018. The program will meet at Kernersville Parks and Recreation, located at 125 E. Bodenhamer Street.
Please contact Kernersville Parks and Recreation at 336-996-3062 if you need to get in touch with camp staff. If you have any questions regarding the camp, please contact Cady Ray at 336-992-0806 or cray@toknc.com.
