Our Community Supports One Another
By Chris Comer
The community of Kernersville is like no other! When one of us is successful, we are all successful. The support received by so many is appreciated every day. The civic organizations in town are continually making a difference because of YOU! Thank you for all you do to support!
How does everything happen? There are so many opportunities out there through The Kernersville Kiwanis Club, The Kernersville Lions Club, The Kernersville Rotary Club, The Kernersville Running Club, The Triad Ladies Civitan, the Exchange Club, and The Civitan Club. Who makes it happen, and how do they do it? There are many events held to raise dollars to give back to the community by each of these organizations, and one opportunity is through the Kernersville Spring Folly proceeds.
Each year the Civic Organizations serve delicious food at the Kernersville Spring Folly at the Main Stage. From barbeque, hot dogs, hamburgers, wraps, French fries, pizza, all the way to shaved ice, funnel cakes and deep-fried Oreo’s. All reasonably priced, your support will benefit all that our organizations do in our community!
The Kernersville Arts and Crafts Guild receives hundreds of applications for the Kernersville Spring Folly to be located all over North Main Street. There are almost 100 vendors chosen to showcase their items at Spring Folly and they have the best handmade stuff! Every year there is jewelry, home goods, wooden pieces, accessories and so much more! Each time you buy something from a vendor it supports the Kernersville Arts and Crafts Guild by encouraging this vendor to come back again and again.
Your child may play on a ball team for Kernersville Little League that has one of the above civic organizations supporting their team. What about the scholarships that your high school student needs for college? Scholarships and eye exams that students receive at the local schools are all things that are happening thanks to you buying food at the Spring Folly.
Still wondering how a civic organization can make such a big difference? Check it out for yourself:
Kernersville Arts & Crafts Guild: the proceeds from the vendor booth rentals provides a “make it and take it” event at the Spring Folly, provides the opportunity for the Guild to hold events in town, and provides the rent for the Christmas Store. If you have not been to the Christmas Store, do not miss it this year. Stop by the arts and crafts vendors to see what they have got to offer.
The Kernersville Kiwanis Club funds programs in our local schools such as Key Club, Builders Club, Terrific Kids, and more! The Club also offers two $1,500 scholarships for Glenn and East Forsyth High School students as well as sponsors a family at Christmas.
The Kernersville Lions Club provides doctors’ fees for exams and eyewear, college scholarships, and sponsors Kernersville Little League Baseball.
The Kernersville Rotary Club provides high school scholarships, supports Assisted Living residents, and provides a youth leadership program.
The Kernersville Running Club (KRC) facilitates road races, lectures, fun runs, education activities, clinics, and social events.
Triad Ladies Civitan supports a church youth choir trip to Daytona Beach each July for retreat/competition with other youth, sponsors a camper with disabilities each summer for a week to Camp Carefree, supports Kernersville Christmas Stocking, supports Bethany Café, participates in the Kernersville Police Department “Teddy Bear” program to distribute to children, provides a Kernersville Little League team sponsorship, and much more.
Thank you for continuing to support your local groups by eating and participating at events such as the Kernersville Spring Folly. Thank you for supporting the causes for which our organizations in Kernersville work so tirelessly. Kernersville is a unique place and we are so lucky to call this wonderful community home.
