Hands in the Triad, Hearts Around the World
By Chelsea Pyne
Triad Pediatrics is celebrating two years of serving families around the Piedmont and beyond. As a faith-based practice, it has always been important to the founders and staff to reach children who do not have access to healthcare. In fact, Dr. Tom Dillard has made it Triad Pediatrics’ mission to put caring for local families-and children around the world-as a cornerstone of the practice.
To accomplish this, Dr. Dillard and his staff have worked fervently over the past two years to hire more doctors and raise funds to help those in need. Practice Administrator, Chad Cooke Ph.D., LCMHC explained, “Since our inception, we have set out four goals to fulfill. The first is to be a resource in the Triad where competent compassionate care is provided. We also strive to see our local community as a ministry opportunity. The second goal is with our international reach. We want to provide care in other parts of the world to children who severely need it. The third objective is to have our doors open to doctors who practice outside of the US. This allows them to work when they come back on rotation in the States. The fourth and final goal of our current mission is to run a nonprofit foundation that supports medical missions overseas. We have set high expectations, and through God’s goodness and faithfulness, we have already come incredibly far.”
The first pillar, compassionate care, is the heartbeat behind Triad Pediatrics. Whether that means praying over patients before procedures, ensuring that special needs children feel comfortable with the staff and office, or providing telemedicine for convenience and safety… Triad Pediatrics goes above and beyond to meet all family needs.
Although Telemedicine is not a new service, it has recently become more popular due to the virus outbreak. Patients are taking advantage of this because they still get quality care while saving time and money without leaving their homes. Chad explained that not every appointment needs to be in-person. So instead of loading up the car and taking the trip to the office, the child and parent can easily and securely have a video call with their family doctor. Telemedicine appointments allow Triad Pediatrics’ providers to help treat established patients who have ADHD, asthma, depression, anxiety, rashes, and other ailments. “Folks appreciate this service on both sides of the spectrum. It saves a lot of hassle when days are busy for families and doctors. The technology is super simple. Once you schedule an appointment, you will be emailed a secure link that puts you in a private video conference with your doctor,” Chad added.
In fact, the provider who set up their Telemedicine capabilities, TriMed Technologies, has offered this service to medical practices across North Carolina for free. Every office can take advantage of this service thanks to TriMed’s generosity. Of course, for many illnesses and wellness checks, doctors will need to give an in-person physical exam. Yet it stands as another way Triad Pediatrics is fulfilling its desire to be an outstretching resource to the community.
Which leads into their second pillar, international outreach. Triad Pediatrics strives to provide adequate healthcare outside of the U.S. Dr. Dillard’s calling to minister to the sick and hurting children of the world led him to serve as a missionary Pediatrician at Tenwek Hospital in southwestern Kenya. Triad Pediatrics is an extension of his desire to be involved in global missions and to serve families both in the Triad as well as in Kenya. Chad explained, “Even from Kenya, Dr. Dillard is very active here with leadership and the board. As a team, we are able to raise support through individuals, churches, and businesses.”
Their latest endeavor has been fundraising for facility enhancements at Tenwek Hospital so that patients with breathing difficulties are able to use the newly supplied oxygen concentrator. Triad Pediatrics’ next focus is with a children’s home called Eagles Nest in Guatemala. For a week in November, they will have a check-up clinic and give aid to as many children as possible.
Given that an international presence is so important to Triad Pediatrics, it makes sense that they care deeply for doctors abroad who return home looking for work. This is a huge relief to many doctors because not only can they continue to serve, but they also have a welcoming office that upkeeps their medical license.
Finally, to round out their mission, the doctors and staff have already established Triad Pediatrics Foundation, a nonprofit to support medical missions overseas. Chad explained, “We are excited that as we continue to be a successful practice, we can regularly contribute to the foundation and provide medicine and medical supplies to children around the world.” For more information on their outreach and how to get involved, visit www.TriadPediatricsFoundation.com.
Parents Cody and Sydney W. shared, “Triad Pediatrics has been such an incredible blessing to our family. We have told others that Triad Pediatrics is the Disney World of pediatric practices. The quality of care is entirely unmatched. A calm office environment, the winsome air of professionalism amongst the staff, and sparkling clean, cutting-edge facilities serve as a backdrop to a world-class experience. As parents, we cannot help but notice the tender care the medical staff gives our children (and us too!). Seemingly small details like a bracelet and balloon at every visit and a smile from every staff member make trips to the doctor enjoyable, something we never thought possible. In fact, our little girl actually told us last week that she wanted to schedule a visit!”
