Let’s Get Kickin’
By Lauren Olive
While most people are in summer vacation mode, Kernersville Soccer Association is gearing up for the upcoming soccer year and building our program back up after the pandemic. We currently have the 2021 Fall/2022 Spring Recreation League registration open for all of the area’s youth players that are ready to have fun and exercise all while playing soccer!
We have hosted a number of public Question and Answer Zoom calls over the summer to reach people that are new to the area or new to the club. The response has been great and there are a few more scheduled for the remaining weeks of summer. These sessions have provided great feedback and insights into how we can improve our program.
KSA has also started a “Coach the Coach” program that will help coaches new and old with things like practice plans and opening the lines of communication with the families of players they coach. We cannot wait for our next session on August 12.
Our basic timeline for the fall season is as follows. We will begin with “Group Training” sessions the weeks of August 16 and August 23. These sessions give players and coaches a chance to get back into a training atmosphere before teams are finalized. Teams will then be formed and have their practices begin the week of August 30. Games will be targeted to begin the weekend of September 11. Our Little Kickers Program, which is great for 3- and 4-year-olds, will begin the weekend of September 11 as well! The season should be winding down in November. Fall Registration will close to the public on August 20 so we can get ready for an exciting new season.
KSA plans on starting our Spring League practices in late February with games beginning in March. The spring season will wrap up in May. For anyone looking to only play in the spring, the spring only registration will open up for those interested in November.
In addition, we have a few new and exciting things up our sleeves for the upcoming fall season. In a partnership deal with Dick’s Sporting Goods, we have arranged a Kernersville Soccer Association weekend for the weekend of August 20-22 at both Winston-Salem and Greensboro Dick’s Sporting Goods locations. As we get closer to that weekend, check our Facebook/Instagram Accounts as well as our website for the coupon to save 20% off your entire order. We are really looking forward to this weekend to get new cleats and soccer balls and we know you will be excited about it as well.
KSA is bringing our concession stand back! With COVID on the way out, husband and wife team Patrick and Jasmine have agreed to run the concession stand at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex. The menu will consist of grab-and-go items such as Gatorade, candy, chips and hot food like burgers, BBQ, and chicken tenders! Stop in and grab some grub to enjoy while you watch a soccer game! They will be open on Saturday’s during the season from 9am-4 pm.
One thing KSA loves about the town of Kernersville is the amazing community support that is shown from local businesses. We appreciate that so many have agreed to partner with us by being sponsors for our league in this upcoming soccer year! A huge thanks to: Novant, IPM Roof Solutions, All Year Heating & Cooling, Andy Scott with State Farm, Metcalf Family Dentistry, Jennic Property Solutions, PAM Trading Company, Sedgefield Outdoor Equipment, Kernersville Magazine, Caudill’s, Triangle Visions, Gold N Silver Shop, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amanzi Marble and Granite, Allergy Partners of the Triad, Beroth Tire & Automotive, Vulcan, AAR of North Carolina, Shoe Carnival, Chick-fil-A, Tate Architecture, Angela Tomes with Keller Williams, Sheetz, and Chandler & Richter.
