Light the Way: KLT’s 2021-2022 Season
By Hollie Stevenson-Parrish, Vice President of Marketing, Kernersville Little Theatre
Welcome to Kernersville Little Theatre’s 45th Season: “Light the Way.” The last year has provided so many lessons and an opportunity to reflect and discern the importance of the values already within our reach. We saw how important love and connection is to the human existence. We gained a deeper appreciation of resilience and adaptability in the face of the unexpected. Not only that, but we recognize the grit and determination of those who chose to forge a path forward when the odds were against them. After an unorthodox season and carving out an existence in unprecedented times, we challenge that it is time to get back to normal — rather, time to get back to what matters. Join Kernersville Little Theatre as we embark on our 2021-2022 season, “Light the Way.”
Community is at the heart of everything we do. We aim to support activities and events in which we can play a part. You may find us participating in events such as the Spring Folly, Music at Twilight, Downtown Trick-or-Treating, and the Annual Christmas parade in Kernersville. We strive to give back to the community with our Memorial Scholarship and supporting the Kernersville Christmas Stocking for needy families.
We have been fortunate over the years to have the support from those within the Kernersville community and around the Triad. We continue to have volunteers who have been with us from the very beginning, creating a strong sense of family. Join us today and support local arts in your community!
Almost, Maine:
September 17, 18, 24, 25 at 7:30 p.m.
September 19, 26 at 2 p.m.
Performance Location: James Fitzpatrick Auditorium
Kernersville Elementary School, 512 West Mountain Street
Our season begins in September 2021, with Almost, Maine a place that is so far north, it is almost not in the United States. It is almost in Canada. And it is not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So, it almost doesn’t exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend — almost — in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
Steel Magnolias:
November 12, 13, 19, 20 at 7:30 p.m.
November 14, 21 at 2 p.m.
Performance Location: James Fitzpatrick Auditorium
In November, we continue our season with Steel Magnolias in Truvy’s salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana the go-to place for a beauty fix with a hearty side of gossip. Along with her overeager assistant Annelle, Truvy pampers her small-town clients with hairdos, manicures, and all kinds of unsolicited advice. Anybody who’s anybody is a regular: There’s the doting M’Lynn and her soon-to-be-married daughter, Shelby, the moody Ouiser and the well-to-do widow Clairee. Through witty banter and wisecracks, this hodgepodge group of women form friendships as strong as steel, which they are forced to lean on when tragedy strikes.
Sherlock Holmes: The Baker Street Irregulars
February 25, 26 and March 4, 5, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
February 27 and March 6, 2022, at 2 p.m.
Performance Location: James Fitzpatrick Auditorium
Next up is our annual Bring a Book to Life show in February and March 2022. The goal of this production is not only an entertaining show, but to provide elementary school students with access to free theatre and an age-appropriate book based on the show. Kernersville Little Theatre is pleased to announce our 8th annual Bring a Book to Life production, Sherlock Holmes: The Baker Street Irregulars.
Sherlock Holmes is missing, and the streets of London are awash with crime. Who will save the day? The Baker Street Irregulars — a gang of street kids hired by Sherlock himself to help solve cases. Now they must band together to prove not only that Sherlock is not dead but also to find the mayor’s missing daughter, untangle a murder mystery from their own past, and face the masked criminal mastermind behind it all — a bandit who just may be the brilliant evil Moriarty, the man who killed Sherlock himself! Can a group of orphans, pickpockets, inventors, and artists rescue the people of London? The game is afoot!
Bright Star:
June 17, 18, 24, 25, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
June 19, 26, 2022 at 2 p.m.
Performance Location: James Fitzpatrick Auditorium
And finally, in June 2022, we will get to tell the story we wanted to tell our audiences so badly for the past two years — Bright Star. Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of North Carolina in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past — and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, Bright Star is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.
