There is nothing quite as comforting as curling up with a good book as the fire warms the chilly December air. Having the feeling of winter wash over you while you are under a chunky blanket and sipping on a hot cup of cocoa. With this perfect moment happening, you do not want to ruin it by picking the wrong book! Imagine doing all of this and the book you chose to read is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, a good book all around but completely a spring book. No, what you want to read is something that screams Christmas trees and knit sweaters. So here are my top 8 reading suggestions that will help you get into that winter mood!
Little Women by Luisa May Alcott
Little Women is probably one of my favorite books! It is a beautiful story of sisters that portrays all the ups and downs of girl hood. Each character is specifically written in such a way to show the versatility of feminism; from independent Jo, ready to take on the world, to beautiful Meg, who only wants to build her own home. Set in Concord, Massachusetts during the 19th century it is the ultimate winter book.
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
Jane Austen’s most beloved book, Pride and Prejudice, is a beautiful, romantic book following Elizabeth Bennet as she learns more and more about her new acquaintance, Mr. Darcy. This book is the best comfort book, it will have you feeling warm and cozy all winter long!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The world inside of The Hunger Games is a fairly unique one. Not only is there the plot that is literally “kill or be killed”, but there is also the theme that focuses on the abuse of power in the hands of the rich. Survival and oppression go hand in hand for main character, Katniss Everdeen. What better way to celebrate this festive season then with a revolution!
The Hounds of Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
Now for those who like a bit more mystery, The Hounds of Baskervilles is perfect for you! The suspense and supernatural aspect of the book leave each reader wanting more, as well as the overarching theme of superstition verses logic. The dark nature of the book is just what you need as the weather cools down.

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
In a post-Napoleonic age, Alexandre Dumas paints a beautiful story of love and revenge. It is an adventure story that following Edmond Dantes as he is wrongfully imprisoned by his enemies, with themes of vengeance, justice, mercy, and forgiveness. With a little bit of treasure thrown in! You can not go wrong with this book as you curl up in front of the fire this December.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
