VFW Auxiliary: Family Freedom Festival
By Lin Moore
The VFW Auxiliary is the oldest Veterans Service Organization in the United States. The mission of the Auxiliary is to help veterans and their families. The motto for the Auxiliary is “Unwavering Support of Uncommon Heroes.” In support of our local unwavering heroes, the VFW Auxiliary Post 5352 is sponsoring a Family Freedom Festival on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Kernersville VFW Post 5352 located at 618 Edgewood Street, Kernersville. The Festival will run from 10 AM- 4 PM.
Activities at the Festival will include a dunk tank, games for children, a corn hole tournament, vendors, service organizations, a bake sale, prize drawings, kids’ activity corner, and food. The CMV (Combat Motorcycle Veterans) will also be holding a Smoke-Off where you can sample the best barbecue in town, prepared by local chefs competing for the title of Smoke-off Champion.
Net proceeds from the Festival will be used to send local veterans and first responders to Operation Patriots FOB. OPFOB is dedicated to creating and fostering positive experiences for veterans and first responders by connecting through outdoor activities, natural surroundings, and camaraderie. Their purpose is to help our local heroes find partnership and purpose, giving them some relief from their daily struggles. Veterans and first responders are dedicated to serving and protecting, but transitioning back to civilian life can be tough. They witness the worst and carry the burden of their experiences which sometimes can lead to thoughts of suicide.
The Family Freedom Festival is more than just a day of fun, it is an opportunity for our community to come together in support of those who protect our community and our freedoms. We invite you to participate in the activities, enjoy the fun, and support a great cause by attending the Family Freedom Festival with your family and friends. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our veterans and first responders.
