A Spooktacular Time
By Heather Chapman
It is officially spooky season! Halloween brings together a multitude of different traditions that offer fun for the entire family. You can get dressed up, carve pumpkins, watch scary films, tell ghost stories, and enjoy the classic Halloween traditions. Here is what we have going on in October.
Jump on the “ghost train” and bring the family out to an epic night in Harmon Park for Haunted Movies in the Park. The spooky night sky offers the perfect backdrop for a haunting tale on the big screen. This year we will be showing a kid friendly movie so the entire family can enjoy a good scare.
The event is free, be sure to arrive early at 5:30PM and be one of the first 100 people to receive a goody bag! The movie will begin at dusk around 7:30PM.
Arrive hungry, as comfort food is just as important on chilly fall evenings. Enjoy one or multiple food trucks options throughout the night—Hot Dog Hideaway, Crazy Dog Mexican Food Truck, and the Struggle Bus (hot chocolate, apple cider, coffee & more).
Commemorative haunted t-shirts ($12/each) will be available for purchase, while supplies last.
If you require a modification and/or inclusion support to attend this event, please contact Emily Crisco two weeks prior, at 336-564-2241 or email ecrisco@toknc.com for more information.
Our Fall Programming is also underway and spotlighting a few of our Athletic offerings this season!
Archery is a sport that anybody can enjoy, from young adults to senior citizens. Kernersville Parks and Recreation is offering a one-hour, Intermediate Archery class on Monday, October 21 from 7:15PM -8:15PM. Archers will continue to learn proper form and skills to shoot more accurately and further. To register visit www.kvparks.com or call 336-996-3062.
We are also offering a Veteran Archery class this November. This program is free for veterans with and without disabilities. Veteran Archery is designed to show appreciation to Military service members and provide a space to learn a new skill and meet new people. Trained staff will be on site and all adaptive equipment will be provided. For further details and registration, please visit kvparks.com or contact Emily Crisco at 336-564-2241.
Have you heard of the game Futsal? The sport is a small-sided indoor football game that is played on a hard court, similar to a basketball court, with two teams of five players each. The smaller field size ensures a game of Futsal is fast-paced and more intense, with more opportunity for goal scoring.
Interested? Registration is open for the fall season to kids in grades Kindergarten – 5th grade and Middle School. Games and practices vary by date/time and begin in November. To find out more information contact bbullins@toknc.com.
Bump, Set, Spike, the game of volleyball is to keep kids moving, engaged and learning new skills.
