Christmas in Kernersville: Reverse Parade and Shopping Galore!

By Molly Smith

This year’s Kernersville Christmas Parade is going to look a little different—it is now in reverse! This parade is presented by Cone Health and will be held on December 6th beginning at 2:30pm.

How does a reverse parade work? The spectators will be the ones moving! In the efforts to promote social distancing and prevent large crowds, our professional floats, small businesses, classic cars, dance groups, bands and even Santa Claus will be lined up along West Mountain Street ready to greet you and spread some Christmas cheer.

Cars will enter off Cherry Street and turn onto West Mountain Street beginning at 2:30pm. They will continue down the road until they reach Kernersville Elementary School, where Santa will be wishing you Merry Christmas. Seeing the floats from the safety of your car promotes social distancing while still supporting our local nonprofits, local businesses, and others.

On November 28, the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce Downtown Committee and Farm to Table committee will be hosting its first ever Small Business Saturday Pancake Breakfast presented by Kyle’s Coffee and Savage Roasters, LLC. Tickets will be on sale on KernersvilleNC.com and will include two pancakes, bacon, and a beverage! The event is aimed to promote excitement in Downtown Kernersville early in the morning to gear up for a full day of shopping for the Small Business Saturday/Holiday Open House. Santa will be at the Kernersville Museum at 1pm for free pictures in its new Historical Village and the opening of the ice-skating rink. Be sure to buy a ticket to skate and show support for your favorite local businesses.

On December 5th we will also be hosting our annual Christmas Around Downtown Kernersville—a shopping passport event to kick off holiday shopping. Passport pick-ups will begin at the Kernersville Historical Depot beginning at 11am and will include over 20 of our favorite shops. Collect all the passport stamps and end the evening at the Kernersville Museum for pictures with Santa and hot chocolate with cookies.

We hope to see you at each of our holiday events this year! Whether it is shopping local or participating in the first ever reverse Christmas parade, any support is greatly appreciated in Kernersville. For any questions about these events please email Molly Smith at MollySmith@KernersvilleNC.com or call the Chamber at 336-993-4521.
