Seize the New Year!

By Heather Wood

Now that Christmas has passed and the New Year’s Eve celebrations have ended, how do you seize the New Year and keep the momentum going? As we head into the cold winter months, for many of us our light begins to dim. Let’s find fun winter activities to bond us this season.

One of our most popular events of the season is the Father Daughter Dance. Join us for our Winter Wonderland! The event will take place at The Summit Church on Saturday February 19, 2022 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, January 12 at 10:00am. Ticket sales are online only, so be sure you have already created an account in our new Registration system at www.kvparks.com by clicking the green “Register” tab.

The night will include dancing, a photo opportunity, and event goodie bag that will include a take-home treat and SNOW much fun! Each person needs a ticket– one for Dad and one for each daughter. Tickets are $17/each. Limited quantities available. There will be no ticket sales at the door.

We will provide goodie bags that will include a FREE meal coupon from Chick-Fil-A, but we will also have desserts provided at the dance—so be sure to eat before you come to dance the night away! It is a wonderful opportunity for fathers and daughters of all ages to enjoy an evening together and make magical memories that will last a lifetime!
We are excited to offer a 4-week instructional archery clinic for everyone interested in the opportunity to discover the sport! You do not have to be particularly fast or strong to succeed at archery. Regardless of your natural athletic ability, you can become skilled shooting a bow and arrow. Each week you will learn new skills to help you improve your knowledge and abilities in archery! Classes begin Wednesday nights on 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, and 1/26 from 6:00 – 7:00PM. This class is offered to ages 9 and older.

In February will we offer another NEW 4-week clinic for Youth Volleyball! This clinic will begin in February but you can register now! The clinic will focus on basic fundamentals and individual skills. The 4-week session will be progressive, so it is beneficial to make each class. The class will work towards game play and by the end, your child will have a good introduction to the sport of Volleyball. This is designed for ages 9-12, looking to try the sport, gain interest and maybe join their school team.

During the long, cold days of winter, it is easy to fall off even the most well-intentioned exercise program. But staying active is important for both our physical and mental well-being. That goes for kids too! Regular physical activity can reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health, prevent weight gain, and improve sleep. With winter upon us, let’s look at some ways to keep the whole family active. All classes listed can be accessed at www.kvparks.com to register and find out more details. Zumba with Christine will help you find your way to getting fit, have fun and make new friends. Zumba is easy to follow, so no dance experience is needed. Join the party with some of the best Latin remixes with two convenient class times offered Tuesday evenings from 5:45-6:45PM or Thursday mornings from 9:30-10:30AM.

Ashley Price, our 200-hour registered yoga teacher, will guide you through a Power Yoga class that is designed to challenge the intermediate to advanced yoga practitioner and to gain patience and skill both on and off the mat. Yoga builds strength and tones muscles while challenging yourself in a powerful yoga sequence. Attend our yoga classes on Mondays from 7:15-8:15PM.

We are offering a new program REV + FLO this season, with the same great instructor, Ashley Duggins. Ashley has been teaching REFIT with us for several seasons and was recently certified to teach this new up and coming workout. REV + FLO is a low impact workout designed to move your body the way it was meant to move. In this 45-60-minute class, you will use functional fitness to focus on strengthening muscles, increasing balance, and flexibility. This class will be offered on Mondays, from 6:00-7:00PM. Kids 5+ are welcome to join with adults.

Embrace Winter as a season to nourish yourself—body and soul. Take time to slow down, sip your hot tea, put your to-do list aside and replenish. This will prepare you for the season to come.
