Get Outside

By Heather Chapman

Our busy season is upon us: The season for emerging and spending more time outdoors at local events. The days start getting longer, flowers bloom and the warmer, sunny days bring families and friends to Kernersville to enjoy all our town has to offer. Every season gives us a cause to celebrate, here are a few reasons to get out and join in on the community fun!

2024 Movies in the Park
May 17 | June 21 | September 20
Harmon Park, 152 S. Main Street
You are invited to enjoy a movie under the stars! The Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer the following family friendly movies presented by Jeffrey Hutchins Law Firm. Movie screenings at a local park offers numerous benefits that go beyond entertainment. Outdoor movies provide a free space for families and friends to get together and get involved in their community.
The move line up will be May 17 – Trolls Band Together, June 21 – Elemental, and September 20 – Migration. Showtime begins at dusk. Anyone planning to attend is urged to arrive early as viewing space may be limited. Pre-show activities begin at 6PM and will include vendor booths, food trucks, and family friendly entertainment.
These events are free and open to the public. Be sure to bring a blanket and/or chairs. The Food Trucks that will be on-site May 17 are Crazy Dog Mexican Food Truck, Hot dog Hideaway, Drift Along Pizza Co., Blue Skies Creamery, and Kona Ice. There will be popcorn for sell as well.
In case of inclement weather, the movie screenings may be canceled. Updated information will be posted on the Town website and Facebook page.

Kernersville Community Recreation and Events Center Update!
I have left the best news for last, as I know everyone is waiting to hear updates on the new Community Recreation and Events Center. The building is currently 65% complete. While driving by you may have noticed all the windows being installed and finishing up the exterior of the building. Moving indoors, the main focus right now is working with our IT Department and installing wiring for audio-visual, data, and locks. Once complete, the remainder of the drywall will be installed throughout. They are also installing the ceiling grids, so the inside of the building is coming together and starting to look like the layout of a recreation center. We continue to be excited for what is to come and will keep you updated as things continue to progress.
