Let’s Take a Vote!
By Chris Comer
It is becoming the season of giving here in Kernersville, and one of the best ways that some of our citizens have found to give back is by serving in a public office role. This year, residents in our community have graciously offered to share their time and talents with us and our businesses.
Elections for town officials in the Town of Kernersville are every two years, with 2019 being a busy one for our candidates. The mayor and five aldermen serve two-year terms with the voting happening in only a couple of months. These elected officials are here for our community to assist in continuing to grow and strengthen Kernersville.
This year, our five current aldermen have filed to serve another two years and there are three filings for the mayoral race. In an attempt to introduce these candidates to the community, the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce offers a few opportunities to get to know the candidates.
“Corks and Candidates” will be held Thursday, October 10 from 5pm to 7pm at Kernersville Brewing Company located on North Main Street. This event will be a great way to mingle with those that have filed to become our next mayor and aldermen. The Kernersville Chamber’s “Engaging Professionals in our Community” group hosts this event.
The Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee will be hosting a Mayoral Candidates Forum on Tuesday, October 15 from 5:15pm to 7:15pm. This will be a formal event with questions and a moderator (Dana Caudill Jones from the WSFCS School Board.) The Shepherds Center of Kernersville will provide light snacks at the reception in front of Town Hall. There will be an opportunity to submit a question at this event as well.
Please be sure to stop by these events to meet our candidates and contact the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce at 336-993-4521 with any questions.
