Collision Repair you can Count On

By Amber Mabe

Every car owner, at some point in their lives, has found themselves on “the search:” the search for a trustworthy, skilled auto repairman who cares for their customers’ cars as they would their own. Paul Mize, owner of Best Bet Auto Finish, is one such auto repairman. Customers who find themselves fortunate enough to discover Paul in their search for a quality repair shop say his integrity and professional results are what keep them coming back.

Paul discovered an early passion for vehicle maintenance and repair, spending his afternoons as a high schooler tidying and sweeping floors at a local auto shop. “The boss told me if I wanted to learn this industry that I needed to come straight in and get those things done so that I could start helping the guys and learn from them,” says Paul, “so as soon as I got to work, that’s what I would do. I would work on those tasks for an hour and a half or two to get that done, then spend the rest of my time helping the body men and painters and trying to learn from them.” This diligence paid off, and the shop offered Paul a full-time position as a commissioned employee when he graduated high school. During the next fourteen years, Paul worked tirelessly at the shop during the day, then on outside projects in any spare time. This eventually led to starting his own business in 2005.

For the last twenty years, the business has expanded from a one-man-show to a full-fledged, busy collision repair and paint shop. Paul’s wife, Amber, handles office work, and a team of skilled employees assist with collision repairs, paint jobs, and other shop tasks. Even with the flourishing business and growing team, Paul still oversees Best Bet Auto Finish with the same attention to detail and sense of personal responsibility that have set him apart from the very beginning. It is not unusual to see Paul rolling up his sleeves and working alongside his technicians to get projects finished on time and with the highest standard of quality. Paul believes this personal touch is one of the best things about Best Bet Auto Finish. “I think it’s important that the man who writes your estimate and delivers your car to you is the same one who owns the company,” says Paul. “We guarantee our repairs, and that guarantee is my word, not just the company’s.” That firm belief in customer satisfaction and a willingness to correct any mistakes has gone a long way in building customer loyalty and a solid reputation in the Kernersville community. Local automotive shops do not hesitate to refer customers to Best Bet Auto Finish for collision work and have nothing but praise for Paul and his team. “I have known Paul for several years now,” says Rodney Trask, owner of Trask Automotive. “He was referred to me by a friend, and we have been using his business since then. He has always been professional and courteous. If I need an estimate for a customer, I can call him and he will come over to the shop, take pictures, go back to his shop, and give me an estimate within a couple of hours. The work is always done right. If there are any flaws, he will call me and say he is going to do it over, that he is not satisfied with the outcome.”

A Kernersville native, Paul lists both family and community as high priorities in his life and business. He enjoys working alongside his wife at the shop, and says his two daughters, four stepsons, and grandchildren mean the world to him. “It goes without saying that they’re the most important thing to me,” Paul says. Over the years, he has watched both his family, and the community of Kernersville grow but says that no matter how big it gets, Kernersville will always be home. Paul’s desire to be known as a man of his word is reflected in his work, and in the way he interacts with his customers. As a business, Best Bet Auto Finish seeks to have a positive impact on the community and beyond, by participating in fundraisers to help those in need. Every October, a portion of Best Bet’s profits are donated to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Cancer Research programs.

In addition to the quality of work and exceptional personal ethics, Best Bet Auto Finish prioritizes ease of process for their clients. As the insurance world has changed over the years, Paul and his team have adapted as well. Rather than waiting for an insurance agent to set up a visit and provide an estimate on collision damage, car owners can go directly to Best Bet for an insurance-quality estimate with professional photos and accurate damage assessment. They will even contact the customer’s insurance agency directly, or the customer has the option to handle the communication themselves. “We really try to do all that we can to make it as convenient and as pain free for the customer as possible,” says Paul. “It is just as important to me that a job be done and done right, and that the car is returned to the customer, as it is that we get paid for the job. One is no more important than the other.” To Paul, doing the job right often includes going the extra mile. It is not unusual to find him going out of his way to save customers money, helping customers with car drop-offs or pick-ups, and even giving them a ride to rental agencies while their car is in the shop. It is no surprise that customers return time and time again for their repair and paint needs–many over multiple generations.

Even for the most careful of drivers, accidents happen. From fender benders to fender scrapes, hail damage to falling tree limbs, there are few jobs that Paul and his team cannot handle and leave your vehicle looking as good as new. If misfortune strikes and you find yourself in need of a trustworthy, quality auto repair shop, look no further than Best Bet Auto Finish for your collision repairs.
