Empowering Girls One Step at a Time
By Emily Bird

Dust off those running shoes and bring some star power for the upcoming Fun Run 5K for Girls on the Run for the Greater Piedmont! The race will be held on May 3 at 10am, located at the gorgeous Salisbury Community Park at 935 Hurley School Road in Salisbury.
This is not just any ordinary 5K. This annual event brings runners together from all walks of life to celebrate the accomplishments of all the girls in our program. Participants can expect a cheerful atmosphere equipped with a GOTR Village that will have a DJ, a crazy hair station, games, and more!
After the race is finished, participants can celebrate their huge accomplishment along with other fellow runners/walkers! There will be numerous food trucks and different vendors from the area for attendants to enjoy as well.
Girls on the Run Greater Piedmont (GOTRGP) inspires girls to be healthy and confident using a fun, evidence-based curriculum that integrates running and physical activity. This 10-week program teaches social and emotional life skills for girls in grades 3rd-8th. GOTRGP envisions a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams!
This is all made possible by certified, trained volunteer coaches that are there every step of the way. Our coaches encourage and inspire each girl in our program offering each girl a safe and inclusive place to be exactly who they are.
Since GOTRGP was founded in 2008, we have impacted more than 10,000 girls. Each year we serve over 600 girls through our fall and spring season across our 8-county district which includes Guilford, Forsyth, Iredell, Yadkin, Alexander, Rowan, Davie, and Davidson.
Girls of all ages are welcome to sign up as well as community members who wish to walk/run the race. There are 100 community runner/walker spots available, we are excited to integrate the community with our Girls on the Run 5K. All community runners will receive a GOTR 5K T-shirt and GOTR medal with registration!
The price for attending the race is $30. Tickets can be found online
