Spring into Fun: Exciting Activities and Events to Enjoy
By Heather Chapman

April ushers in a season of renewal, where blooming flowers, longer days, and fresh beginnings fill the air with promise. As winter’s chill fades away, nature bursts back to life, painting landscapes in vibrant hues of green and gold. Whether it is the arrival of spring festivals, the thrill of outdoor adventures, or the symbolic essence of growth and change, April serves as a reminder that every new season brings opportunities for transformation.
April’s sense of renewal and togetherness makes it the perfect time to celebrate meaningful connections, like the special bond between a mother and her son. With the season encouraging new memories and cherished traditions, our Mother-Son event offers a heartwarming opportunity to strengthen that relationship. Our event also happens to fall on the same weekend as Mother’s Day, so why not celebrate! Join us at our new location (Kernersville Recreation + Event Center, 1020 Shields Road) on Friday, May 9. The evening is packed with exciting games with friendly competitions and interactive activities. Whether teaming up or facing off, the night fosters connection and joy. The event provides an opportunity for moms and sons to spend quality time together, strengthening their bond in a lighthearted and engaging atmosphere. With plenty of smiles, cheering, and maybe even some playful rivalry, the night becomes a cherished experience for both.
As the warmer weather invites us to spend more time outside, it is also the perfect season for gathering with friends and family under the open sky. An outdoor movie night is a fantastic way to enjoy the fresh air while sharing laughter and nostalgia with loved ones. Join us this summer for our Movies in the Park series in Harmon Park! Delicious food from local food trucks, exciting sponsor booths, and fun games for the whole family to enjoy! Our first movie of the summer will be, “Inside Out 2,” rated PG on Friday, May 16. Movies begin at dusk but arrive early for the best spot and bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and loved ones for an unforgettable evening of entertainment and community fun. See you there!
With the excitement of outdoor gatherings in full swing, April also marks the perfect time to embrace spring sports for both kids and adults. As the days grow longer and the weather invites more activity, sports like pickleball, lacrosse, and basketball provide a fun and energetic way to stay active while enjoying the season. Whether joining a local league, playing casually with friends, or cheering from the sidelines, spring sports offer a fantastic way to build teamwork, stay healthy, and make the most of the beautiful outdoors. Join our Adult Volleyball Competitive and Social Open Play in our new Recreation Center Dual Gym!
Competitive Play – “Queen of the Court” system, where there will be a “winner court” where all courts will rotate depending on losses & wins. The loser moves to a different court to play, and the winners rotate opposite. A “game” will be a set to 15 points, win by 2, cap at 21. We have 4 courts available for play, so there will constantly be moving parts. The format promotes fast-paced action and ensures that everyone gets plenty of playtime, as each team gets a chance to compete against others.
Social Play style is just simply that, pick-up games with those that are registered for a fun, non-competitive night of free play.
Indoor Adult Basketball Leagues this summer offer a fantastic opportunity for basketball enthusiasts to stay active, compete, and have fun in a structured environment. These leagues are typically organized by registering as a team and playing a 6-game season with a single elimination tournament at the end to round off the summer season. Games are played on Friday nights and the league can be co-ed.
Indoor Beginner/Intermediate Archery Clinics provide a unique and exciting way to learn a new skill in a controlled and supportive environment. Perfect for both kids and adults, these clinics focus on the fundamentals of archery, including proper stance, aiming techniques, and safety. With guidance from experienced instructors, participants build confidence and precision while developing patience and focus. Whether you are looking for a new hobby, a fun challenge, or a stepping stone into competitive archery, these clinics offer a great introduction to the sport in a welcoming indoor setting. Check our website for open dates/times of registration.
