Hometown Christmas at Kernersville Museum

By Kelly Hargett

During the summer of 2020, restoration work on the weaning cabin and stable was completed and plans quickly got underway for our fall and winter events. This year has taught everyone so much about adapting to our current social norms. Luckily, our fall and winter events calendar has made adapting a fairly easy process.

This year we will have a new event that we promise will become your family’s new favorite tradition. Hometown Christmas will bring the magic of your favorite holiday movies to life right in the heart of downtown Kernersville. Our popular synthetic ice rink will be back this year, as well as the addition of our display of adopted live Christmas trees that will be scattered throughout the property. These trees will be adopted by local businesses, civic clubs, and families and decorated for the Christmas season.

Interested in getting involved? It is $200 to adopt a tree. Trees will be on display for 7 weeks in the Historic Village at the Kernersville Museum. Each adopted tree will have signage denoting who adopted the tree and, in whose memory, or honor the tree is decorated. The best tree wins bragging rights for the entire year. Tree and solar lights will be provided by the Museum; the adopter provides the outdoor decorations of their choice (please see decoration guidelines provided by the Kernersville Museum). Adopted trees can be decorated by your favorite charity, group, or school.

In addition to the live Christmas tree display, the Museum will have live, fresh Christmas wreaths for sale in the village. These wreaths make the perfect addition to your holiday décor. Purchase one for your front door, over your mantel, or even for your neighbors. They make great gifts! Twelve-inch wreaths are $25 and 16-inch wreaths are $35. Pre-order your wreath to ensure you get yours before we run out.

And finally, this year in the heart of the village, you will find our Wish Tree. Write down your wish for this holiday season and add it to our tree. Also, enjoy reading the wishes of your neighbors. We cannot think of a better way to get into the Christmas spirit. We look forward to seeing you skate, pick out a wreath for yourself and maybe a friend, explore our live Christmas tree display, and leave your wish for this holiday season.

To visit the Kernersville Museum, please stop by Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Due to Covid-19 and the Governor’s orders, the Kernersville Museum will operate at 50% capacity until restrictions are lifted. Face masks are required to visit inside the Museum. Admission is free. Please call ahead for any large groups so that we may accommodate your needs.
