Sparkle While You Run
By Emily Bird
Lace up your running shoes and bring some sparkle for the upcoming Fall 5K for Girls on the Run for the Greater Piedmont! The race will be held on November 16th at 2pm, located at the beautiful Salisbury Community Park (935 Hurley School Road in Salisbury). This is not just any ordinary 5K! Sparkle and joy will be widespread before the race even begins at the GOTR Village complete with a DJ, a crazy hair station, a balloon artist, and more.
After the race is finished, the participants can celebrate along with other fellow runners/walkers in their huge accomplishment! There will be numerous food trucks and different vendors from the area for attendants to enjoy as well.
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a non-competitive, after-school running program that includes social as well as emotional life skills and lessons for girls in grades 3rd-8th. GOTR for the Greater Piedmont envisions a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. This is made possible by volunteer coaches that are there every step of the way for 10 weeks with their girls, encouraging them and running alongside them so they can confidently cross the finish line at their End of the Season 5K.
Girls of all ages are welcome to sign up, as well as community members who wish to walk/run the race. There are 100 community runner/walker spots available, which we are excited to integrate the community into with our Girls on the Run 5K. All community runners will receive a GOTR 5K t-shirt and GOTR medal with registration.
The price for attending the race is $30. Tickets can be found by using this link:

We strive to make our program accessible to all girls no matter what their financial limitations may be. All proceeds from this race go towards our financial assistance to be able to cover the cost of any girl who wants to participate in Girls on the Run.
